The
Covenant of Grace United
We have been called together to be the church of God in Christ
Jesus. We are a community of faith
formed by a work of grace, knit together by the God who still speaks. Born of Christ we seek to embody and
express the very Spirit of Christ.
In this community diversity shall be accepted and valued. Our welcome will be open and
embracing. We reject any status in
terms of social standing, education, race, age, gender, sexual orientation,
mental ability, physical ability, or any other distinction. In keeping with the kingdom whose table
is set for all, we will extend ourselves fully in an effort to relieve human
suffering and will oppose that which diminishes or oppresses even one of
God’s children.
As a member of this community and a disciple of Jesus Christ, I intend to
live under the following commitments:
I will gather regularly with the church to worship God, that I might be
deeply connected both to God and to those who journey with me. I shall approach worship with an open
heart and will hear the Gospel with fresh ears and take seriously its
implications for my life.
I will be attentive to the still speaking God through diligent study of
the Bible as well as prayer and meditation. I will faithfully seek out experiences
which deepen my awareness of God’s presence.
I will listen and look for God’s message as it comes to me through
history, the arts, nature, current events and most specifically through
Christ’s presence in all creation.
I will be a faithful steward by giving in a sacrificial manner to the
church’s ministry, to the ministry of the wider church and to the work of
the
I will be accountable to this community of faith. I will discover and offer my gifts and I
will honor the gifts of others.
I will seek to know my sisters and brothers and allow myself to be known
by them. I will choose compassion
over judgment and generosity over greed in my relationships with people and
with God’s world.
With the guiding light and love of Christ and the strength provided by those who journey with me in this faith community, I make this covenant.
