Grace United Church of Christ
Mission and Service Opportunities

Our Church’s Wider Mission

As full and grateful partners with the wider church of the United Church of Christ we pledge to give 10% of our operating budget to basic support of Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM).

The Caring Kitchen of Alamance County

Grace UCC prepares and serves lunch to people in need at this local meal provider.  Our scheduled day of service is the first Saturday of each month from 8:30am-12:30pm.

Loaves and Fishes of Alamance County

Grace UCC members and youth will actively support this program through the regular donation of food supplies as well as through the donation of time.  Youth leaders will organize regularly scheduled trips to the Burlington location to assist in the preparation of food items for delivery to families in need of assistance.

Alamance Cares

Alamance Cares is and AIDS Service Agency designed to assist persons living with HIV/AIDS and their families, friends and caregivers.  In partnership with this organization, Grace UCC seeks to provide a two-fold ministry:

1)   To host a support group in a safe welcoming environment.  A professional facilitator is provided and we pledge to protect the anonymity of the participants.  Both patients and their family members are invited (begins March 2006).

2)   To provide for special needs which are not otherwise addressed by other service agencies.

Friends of the Celebration Singers

The “Celebration Singers” of Alamance County are a group of developmentally disabled adults who provide the gift of music throughout the area.  Families from Grace UCC ‘adopt’ one or more of the singers by keeping up regular correspondence and maintaining awareness of any special needs that may arise in their lives.  We will also plan and provide for two special meals during the year to honor and recognize these inspirational people.

The Children’s Mite

Each week children will bring their gift in a small bank which we will provide.  They will receive a ‘new’ bank each week in exchange for their offering.  Twice yearly we will total these gifts and make a donation to Loaves and Fishes of Alamance County.

The "Not Quiet Angels”

Our Children and Youth will visit area nursing homes and assisted living facilities to provide the gift of companionship and love to the elderly.  They will deliver small gifts on special occasions and keep in regular correspondence with their ‘adopted’ friends.
